Honor the past. Protect the future. Co-sponsoring H.Res.317

81 years after Hiroshima and Nagasaki, remembrance must be matched with action. As we remember the lives lost and honor the hibakusha who have spent decades calling for a world free from nuclear weapons, we also have an opportunity to turn remembrance into action.

Join Back from the Brink and Physicians for Social Responsibility–Los Angeles for our Hiroshima & Nagasaki Week of Action (August 3–6)! We're asking Southern Californians to urge our Members of Congress to honor this anniversary by co-sponsoring H.Res.317, the Back from the Brink resolution, which calls on the United States to lead the world back from the brink of nuclear war.

Our priority congressional offices are:

  • Rep. Jimmy Gomez

  • Rep. Sydney Kamlager-Dove

  • Rep. Laura Friedman

  • Rep. Norma Torres

  • Rep. Dave Min

Urge these Members of Congress to cosponsor H.Res.317! And share it with your friends, family, and colleagues across Southern California.

You can also call and email!

If you live in one of these congressional districts, please call and email your Representative asking them to cosponsor H.Res.317. If you do not live in one of these districts, you can still support by calling or emailing at least one of the priority offices. Help by letting them know that, as a Southern California resident, you hope they will provide leadership by cosponsoring H.Res.317.

Subject: Please Cosponsor H.Res.317 to Honor Hiroshima and Nagasaki

Dear Representative ______,

Today marks the 81st anniversary of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The most meaningful way to honor the victims and the hibakusha is through action that helps ensure these tragedies are never repeated.

I respectfully urge you to cosponsor H.Res.317, the Back from the Brink resolution, which calls on the United States to:

  • pursue the global elimination of nuclear weapons through a verifiable international agreement; renounce the first use of nuclear weapons;

  • end sole presidential authority to launch nuclear weapons;

  • take nuclear weapons off hair-trigger alert; and

  • cancel the planned replacement of the U.S. nuclear arsenal with enhanced weapons.

These practical policies would reduce nuclear danger while demonstrating U.S. leadership toward a safer future. Please honor this anniversary by cosponsoring H.Res.317.
