Defending the Right to Clean Water
Water is life, but water quality means health. California has some of the strictest drinking water standards in the world, yet countless communities across the state lack safe, clean, affordable access. From polluting industries to dirty stormwater to costly aging infrastructure, low-income communities and communities of color are more likely to face barriers to safe drinking water.
Unsafe water puts vulnerable people at risk. Californians face organ damage, chronic illness, and even cancer risks from contaminated tap water. In Southeast Los Angeles and throughout California, PSR-LA and our partners have been working tirelessly to address decades of water challenges. We are working to stop the release of toxic substances and implement Extended Producer Responsibility policies to hold harmful industries accountable for the contamination of local water resources. We also support restructuring the water rights, groundwater rights, and water customer rights of California and Southeast Los Angeles to ensure transparency, inclusivity, affordability, and water justice for water users, community members, and Indigenous Peoples.
