Thanh Mai Bercher

Health Professional Coordinator

As Health Professional Organizer, Thanh recruits, engages, and trains physicians, medical students, and public health professionals to support ongoing campaigns. They earned a B.A. in Public Health from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Master of Public Health from Harvard University.

Born and raised in Southern California, Thanh is a proud Californian and the descendant of Vietnamese refugees. Their grassroots organizing is grounded in their upbringing and shaped by the teachings of migrant, refugee, Indigenous, and LGBTQ+ communities. Their work centers community-led wellness and healing, with a focus on intergenerational trauma, place-based traditions, and culturally rooted approaches to care. This includes herbalism and plant medicine informed by their ancestral lineages, as well as collective healing practices in low-resource settings.

In recent years, Thanh has focused on land stewardship and Indigenous-led restoration efforts across the West Coast. Their work includes Native plant education and use among urban Indigenous and diasporic communities, as well as the reclamation of Native places and gathering sites, including Paayme Paxaayt (the Los Angeles River). Thanh also serves as a fire steward, supporting cultural and prescribed burning throughout California to restore Native plant ecosystems, strengthen ecological resilience, and reduce the risk of catastrophic wildfires.
