Paula joined PSR-LA in 2018 and she is the Manager of Health and Environment Programs where she is a project manager with experience in air pollution monitoring and analysis, community science, and environmental policy advocacy. In her role, Paula leads PSR-LA’s Community Air Protection Grant from the California Air Resources Board to address air pollution burden in South Central Los Angeles and co-authored PSR-LA’s 2019 South LA Air Quality Assessment Report. She also coordinates the Californians for a Healthy and Green Economy (CHANGE) coalition and supports policy efforts that address the impacts of legacy toxic chemicals in frontline communities from extraction to disposal. Paula is passionate about addressing pollution burden and bringing relief to people of color communities who are over exposed to toxics and air pollution.
Paula currently serves in the South Coast Air Quality Management District Environmental Justice Community Partnerships Advisory Council and California Air Resources Board AB617 Consultation Group.
Paula was born in Colombia, and her upbringing shaped her understanding of social justice. She came to the USA to explore her passion for the environment and social justice. Paula has worked as an Air Quality Community Outreach Coordinator at Air Alliance Houston (AAH), where she managed projects focused on improving air quality and public health in the Houston-Galveston area. Paula graduated from the University of Houston with an Earth and Atmospheric Sciences degree and is working towards her Masters of Public Health at the Johns Hopkins University. Paula loves exploring nature trails and Colombian Coffee.
