PSR-LA is proud to award Shirley Magidson our 2007 Healing the Planet Award. Shirley is one of the founding members of Physicians for Social Responsibility-Los Angeles and serves on the board today. Her active lobbying against nuclear weapons helped PSR win the Nobel Peace Prize in 1985.

In addition to her service at PSR-LA, Shirley has spent decades volunteering in campaigns, offices, and on the boards of numerous organizations. She opened her home for events to civil rights leaders, including hosting Dr. Martin Luther King when local venues were closed to him. Shirley has been active against the death penalty and human rights abuses and for extending full civil rights to lesbians and gays.

In her 25 years of service to Physicians for Social Responsiblity-Los Angeles, Shirley has brought an unflagging devotion to peace, human rights, women’s rights, and immigrants’ rights.
