Position Available: STAND-LA Coalition (Standing Together Against Neighborhood Drilling) Field Organizing Coordinator

STAND-LA (Standing Together Against Neighborhood Drilling) is seeking a full-time Field Organizing Coordinator to help advance our work to end neighborhood oil drilling in Los Angeles. We seek someone who can drive forward our coalition’s grassroots organizing and coalition-building work.

STAND-LA is an environmental justice coalition of community groups that seeks to protect the health and safety of Angelenos on the front lines of urban oil extraction. We believe all people, regardless of race, income or immigration status, should have access to clean and healthy neighborhoods and clean and safe jobs. We are composed of concerned residents, good neighbors, faith communities, environmental justice champions, researchers, health professionals, students, and parents, with our core base in South Los Angeles and the Harbor-area neighborhood of Wilmington.  

Responsibilities would include:

  • Work with STAND coalition members to conduct outreach, pursue support from a range of community stakeholders

  • Work with STAND coalition members to build a stronger base among community residents, especially those living near active drill sites.

  • Help coordinate the city-wide field organizing strategy with STAND members and allies

The ideal candidate would have some combination of previous experience in:

  • grassroots and field organizing,

  • working in community-based coalitions;

  • experience working with Black and/or Latino communities and other communities of color, especially in South Los Angeles

  • experience working with public/government institutions in policy-making processes.

  • demonstrated commitment to and general familiarity with environmental, racial, economic, and social justice and public health

This position is full-time with a generous benefits package and will be housed out of Physicians for Social Responsibility-Los Angeles. Compensation commensurate with experience. Position open until filled. People of color, working class people, women, and LGBTQ folks strongly encouraged to apply.
