In 2018, PSR-LA’s leadership in the Back from the Brink campaign helped the City of Los Angeles and the State of California adopt resolutions supporting nuclear weapons abolition and a fundamental change in U.S. nuclear weapons policy. To date, 50 municipalities and 6 state legislative bodies have adopted similar resolutions, which are sent to the President and each area’s Congressional delegation.
Demonstrating strong support for nuclear weapons policy reform is especially important as the Biden Administration begins to prepare its Nuclear Posture Review, which determines the role of nuclear weapons in our security strategy. Unfortunately, the Administration’s 2022 budget fully funds the new nuclear warheads the Trump Administration sought, squandering billions of our tax dollars on weapons that threaten our health and the environment while doing nothing to address real-life community needs.
Here’s how you can help: The Back from the Brink campaign has initiated a sign-on letter for local elected officials to express their support for nuclear weapons abolition, eliminating wasteful nuclear weapons spending, and other common sense policies to reduce the threat of nuclear war. Over 200 elected officials have signed the letter so far, and we know many more support our policy solutions–but we need your help to reach them!
Click here to urge your local and state elected officials to speak out on nuclear weapons. We’ve seen that sometimes all it takes is a constituent asking for support for an elected official to pay attention and sign on to the letter, and we can’t do that without you.
Right now, California representatives are significantly underrepresented on the letter. Your advocacy as a constituent will help demonstrate strong coast to coast support for nuclear abolition and safer nuclear policies.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out to firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions or need help reaching out to your officials.
