The Bush Administration is extolling the virtues of “The Mighty Atom,” (seen here from a 1950’s government manual,) and currently plans to site three new nuclear power plants within the next three years. We’re shocked to discover that PG&E and Edison are today preparing their license renewals for the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Plant and San Onofre Nuclear Generation Station—and doing so, a full twenty years in advance. In response, the newly formed Alliance for Nuclear Responsibility and PSR-LA are working together to prohibit nuclear power plant license renewals in California—at least until there is a safe, permanent solution to storing high-level radioactive waste. Clearly, the longer the reactor operates, the more likely these complex, highly radioactive systems can break. For more information call (858) 337-2703, or visit www.a4nr.org.
