SEMINAR TOPIC: TRENDS IN TURKISH FOREIGN POLICY: Bordering Syria, Iran, Iraq, Armenia, Georgia, Greece and Bulgaria, Turkey is a gateway between Europe and the Middle East. A NATO ally Turkey also has important ties with Iran. How Turkey balances its interests across this complex region will be the subject of Consul General Hakan Tekin’s presentation.

THE SPEAKER: Hakan Tekin is the Consul General of Turkey in Los Angeles. He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey in 1990. Worked at the Departments of Culture, Central Asia, Human Rights, Balkans and Personnel within the Ministry. Served at the Turkish Embassies in Abu Dhabi/United Arab Emirates, Sofia/Bulgaria, attended the NATO Defense College Senior Course in Rome/Italy and worked at the Permanent Mission of Turkey to the United Nations in New York. Assumed his post in Los Angeles as Consul General in April 2007. His area of responsibility covers 12 states of the western region of the United States.
