On May 6 Physicians for Social Responsibility-Los Angeles, co-sponsored a day-long symposium, “From Molecules to Movements: Building the New Green Economy from the Ground Up,” which provided a forum for exploring green chemistry, education, and economic development.

Keynote speaker, John Warner PhD, offered inspiration to explore careers in science and health care to the more than 150 high school students from King/Drew Medical Magnet in South Los Angeles.

Participants in the event also included representatives from over 30 community-based organizations and businesses all interested in exploring how green chemistry innovations can help clean up and revitalize communities. “Our goal is to spark creative, interdisciplinary thinking that leads us toward healthy and vibrant communities,” explains PSR-LA Executive Director Martha Dina Argüello. “This event was part of our ongoing effort topromote cradle-to-cradle thinking. By fostering relationships among different stakeholders, we can promote green chemistry and the development of green manufacturing that reduces the pollution.”
