CA Senate Fails to Pass Bill That Would Protect Infants and Toddlers From Bisphenol-A (BPA)
Just after midnight on September 1, the California Senate failed to pass a bill to eliminate Bisphenol-A (BPA) from food and drink containers for children ages 3 and younger. Senator Fran Pavley (D-Santa Monica) carried the legislation with advocate sponsors Physicians for Social Responsibility-Los Angeles, Breast Cancer Fund, and Environmental Working Group.
BPA in California’s Babies – What’s the Hold Up?
This week, the California legislature plans to wrap up its legislative session and make many decisions about the services, priorities, and the budget of our state. Amongst the very tough decisions, sending a bill to protect infants and toddlers from exposure to a toxic chemical — a measure already passed by both the houses but pending one procedural vote in the Senate — should NOT be considered a tough decision.
Never Again
August 6th and 9th, 2010 marked the 65th anniversary of the US Atomic Bomb strikes on Hiroshima and Nagazaki. In remembrance and honor, a small but united crowd gathered at the Koyasan Buddhist Temple and in front of City Hall in Los Angeles on August 1st, as part of the event “Never Again – A Commemoration of the Victims of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.”

CA Assembly Votes to Remove BPA from Infant Food and Drink Containers
Today the California State Assembly passed a bill to eliminate Bisphenol-A (BPA) from food and drink containers designed for children ages 3 and younger. A coalition of health professionals, scientists, parents, and health advocates, supported this measure and herald its passage as a major step in protecting children’s health and advancing chemical policy reform.
Last Chance to Call the Governor – Stop Methyl Iodide
Methyl iodide is so dangerous that it is used to create cancer in laboratories and over 50 scientists across the country – 5 of them Nobel Laureates – sent a letter to the EPA expressing astonishment that the agency was “working to legalize broadcast releases of one of the more toxic chemicals used in manufacturing into the environment.”

LA Health and Climate Symposium: Advancing Healthy and Resilient Communities In A Changing Environment

PSR-LA Opposes Missile Defense Test
PSR-LA is deeply concerned with the missile-defense system test planned for Sunday, January 31 at Vandenberg Air Force Base. We believe that the best way to protect the U.S. and other countries from nuclear threats is through international, verifiable treaties to eliminate nuclear weapons and to secure and eliminate all fissile nuclear bomb-making material.
