Japan Nuclear Disaster
PSR-LA extends its deepest sympathy to the people of Japan. Much is yet to be known about the amount of radiation being released from the damaged nuclear reactors or how long the releases will occur. PSR-LA is deeply concerned about the threat this nuclear disaster poses to public health.

US Senate Ratifies New START Treaty

CA Senate Fails to Pass Bill That Would Protect Infants and Toddlers From Bisphenol-A (BPA)
Just after midnight on September 1, the California Senate failed to pass a bill to eliminate Bisphenol-A (BPA) from food and drink containers for children ages 3 and younger. Senator Fran Pavley (D-Santa Monica) carried the legislation with advocate sponsors Physicians for Social Responsibility-Los Angeles, Breast Cancer Fund, and Environmental Working Group.
A New Generation of Activists Count Down to Zero
PSR-LA and the Ploughshares Fund co-hosted the opening night screening of “Countdown to Zero” at the ArcLight Hollywood on Friday, July 30. The sold-out theatre included a diverse audience ranging from longtime PSR members to Angelinos with a piqued interest in how the producers of the Academy-Award winning “An Inconvenient Truth” would take on the issue of nuclear weapons.
CA Assembly Votes to Remove BPA from Infant Food and Drink Containers
Today the California State Assembly passed a bill to eliminate Bisphenol-A (BPA) from food and drink containers designed for children ages 3 and younger. A coalition of health professionals, scientists, parents, and health advocates, supported this measure and herald its passage as a major step in protecting children’s health and advancing chemical policy reform.
LA Health and Climate Symposium: Advancing Healthy and Resilient Communities In A Changing Environment
Climate change has the potential to cause widespread injuries and death related to natural disasters, displacement, heat-related illnesses, malnutrition, and air and water pollution. PSR-LA co-organized a symposium on April 30th, 2010 titled, Los Angeles Health and Climate: Advancing healthy and resilient communities in a changing environment.
PSR-LA Ambassadors attend the NPT Review Conference
Going the distance to make sure the medical voice is heard during historic opportunities for nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation, Dr. Bob Dodge and Dr. Tova Fuller have participated as delegates to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) Review Conference taking place in New York this month.
